As part of the International Student Series, the Career Connections Center collaborated with UF’s International Center to host a virtual workshop on September 18, 2024, on Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). The workshop was an informative session for international students to understand the process and get any questions answered that they may have pertaining to CPT/OPT.

Steven Ghulamani (UF International Center) and Edwina Hurst (Career Connections Center) discussed career readiness and professional development resources available to international students, as well as, a deep dive into the processes and implications of Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) for international students, including the application process, eligibility criteria, and the importance of maintaining status while on OPT. Lastly, they addressed concerns about support from the International Center, the conditions for a student to be considered part-time, and the handling of student competitions and research funding.
