1:25 PM – 1:50 PM | Good News, Ethics Is Computable; Bad News, Only if It Is Arbitrary or Incomplete

As a society, we wield some of the most powerful tools in history—computers—while grappling with some of the most complex challenges—ethical dilemmas. This raises a provocative question: can we leverage computers to solve all our ethical problems?

In this thought-provoking session, we will explore why computers, despite their immense capabilities, cannot resolve every ethical issue. Specifically, there is no algorithm or program capable of selecting the best ethical system without becoming arbitrary at some point.

The talk will conclude with a reflection on the profound implications this has for how we, as humans, engage in ethical decision-making.
