Immigration Attorney Q&A with Fragomen

The U.S. immigration system can be tough to navigate as an international student. In collaboration with Fragomen, the largest immigration law firm in the world, the UF Career Connections Center has created this session to provide international students with an overview of the U.S. Immigration system and an introduction of key aspects that may impact your student visa status and potential employment options as an international student.

Workshop Summary

Edwina Hurst introduced the Career Connections Center and the 24/7 resource of Career Hub, while Andrea Huerta-Rodriguez, an immigration attorney at Fragomen, provided a comprehensive overview of the US immigration system, important documents, and the process of obtaining a green card. She also discussed the 2-year rule for J-1 visa holders, non-immigrant visas, and the various pathways to obtain a green card. Lastly, Andrea addressed various questions from the attendees and provided guidance on various immigration-related topics.

Next Steps for Students

1. Students to keep copies of all immigration-related documents (I-20s, EADs, passports, work permits, etc.) in a dedicated folder.
