Soaring into Innovation: UF Students Explore Careers at CAE

In April, UF students took their career exploration to new heights with a Career Trek to CAE’s new Tampa facility, a global leader in flight simulation and aviation training. This immersive experience gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how cutting-edge technology powers aviation safety and pilot readiness around the world.

Learning Through Experience

From the moment students arrived, they were immersed in CAE’s high-tech environment. They toured the training center, explored full-flight simulators, and even used VR to fly helicopters—giving them a hands-on feel for what it’s like to be on the front lines of aviation training. The visit highlighted a wide range of career opportunities—from software and mechanical engineering to instructional design and data science.

The trek included a Q&A session with CAE professionals, where students engaged in meaningful conversations about career paths, workplace culture, and tips for breaking into the aviation and tech industries. Team members shared their own journeys, providing students with both inspiration and practical advice.

“Being there made everything click. It helped me understand how my classes relate to real jobs and opened my eyes to careers I hadn’t even considered.”

More Than a Tour—A Career-Defining Experience

Whether they were flying a virtual helicopter or chatting with engineers, students walked away with a better understanding of the aviation industry and how they can be a part of it. The experience helped connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities, opening students’ eyes to roles they may not have previously considered.

Why It Matters

Career Treks like this go beyond observation. They offer students the chance to connect with industry professionals, ask meaningful questions, and build confidence and career clarity. These experiences help students develop professionally, expand their networks, and gain exposure to industries where Gators are in demand.
