AI’s Your Job Search Sidekick—Not the Boss

AI has already transformed and continues to reshape how we approach the job search. But it’s not meant to do all the work for you. Many students and recent grads feel pressured to mass apply out of fear they won’t land anything. However, casting too wide a net can lead you to roles that don’t align with your values or interests.

According to the Forbes Coaches Council (2024), AI is a powerful tool for streamlining tasks like resume writing, interview prep, and company research—but it can’t replace your personal strategy or decision-making.

Just because you use AI doesn’t mean every company does. While data shows that many employers use AI to screen applicants, it varies by industry and role. It’s easy to let technology take over but we’re not living in Disney’s WALL·E. Use AI mindfully, and lead with critical thinking rooted in your values and what you’re looking for in a job and company.
