Introducing a Digital Well-Being Blog Series
Digital well-being has become a new focus area for many health and safety professionals as the human connection with technology has become a part of daily life. It often feels like technology development is outpacing the development of harm reduction strategies to mitigate the negatives of technology. The concerns are numerous; artificial intelligence creating fake images, plagiarism with artificial intelligence, location sharing, telegraphing information, privacy, work/life balance, etc. etc. This blog series will attempt to tackle some of the issues surrounding digital wellbeing in a way that is relevant and clear as well as engaging, and not intimidating. I’m not a tech expert, I’m a social scientist specializing in safety and healthy relationships, so that’s the lens I will be coming from.
Every month, I will bring you evidence-based and evidence-informed information on digital wellness and how to maintain your personal and occupational wellbeing online. Topics will include but are not limited to digital safety on different apps, algorithmic manipulation, being an active bystander in online spaces, and setting digital boundaries. If there is something about digital wellbeing that you want to see a blog about, email me at ssmithpaez@ufl.edu and I’ll see what I can do. Here at GatorWell I am surrounded by health and wellbeing experts so if I don’t know the answer or I don’t feel qualified to speak on something, I’m sure I can find someone to help.
See you next month!
