Employers are looking for more than just a degree — they want global thinkers.
According to the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), employers consistently rank intercultural competence, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving as top skills they seek in new hires.
In their 2023 employer survey, conducted in partnership with Morning Consult, AAC&U found that:
- 80% of employers believe college prepares graduates for workforce success
- Two-thirds of employers said that knowledge gained from addressing real-world problems is more important than discipline-specific knowledge
- Nearly 70% of employers prioritize candidates with microcredentials and experiential learning experiences
These findings align with AAC&U’s broader research on high-impact practices, which include global learning experiences. Students who engage in these practices — whether through virtual exchanges, global coursework, or campus-based workshops — develop:
- Cultural humility and empathy
- Communication across differences
- Strategic thinking in diverse environments
- A global mindset that sets them apart in interviews and on the job
And the best part? These experiences are accessible and affordable. You don’t need to travel abroad to gain global experience. At UF, you can participate in:
- Virtual exchanges with international peers
- Global courses that integrate international perspectives
- On-campus workshops and panels focused on global careers and cultural identity
- Build your network with Alumni, faculty/staff, and your peers who have global connections
📅 Global Gators Month 2025 kicks off this November — and it’s your chance to start building the global skills that employers value. explore the schedule and register!
