Think research is only for grad students or science majors? Think again.
University of Florida offers a wide range of opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in research — no lab coat or prior experience required.
Whether you’re studying engineering, psychology, art, or business, research is your gateway to exploring big ideas, solving real-world problems, and building a powerful foundation for your future career.
Research is one of UF’s seven categories of experiential learning, a framework designed to help students apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings. Engaging in experiential learning early — especially through research — helps you build confidence, clarify your goals, and gain the kind of hands-on experience that employers and graduate programs value.

💰 Funded Research Programs
Want to get paid while doing research? These programs offer funding for students and faculty:
- Emerging Scholars Program – For first-years and sophomores
- University Scholars Program (USP) – UF’s largest research program
- AI Scholars Program – Focused on artificial intelligence
- CLAS Scholars Program – For students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
💡 Tip: These programs often require a faculty mentor and a research proposal. If accepted, students receive ~$1,000-$1,750 in stipend — and for some programs faculty mentors get ~$500. That’s a win-win when reaching out to professors!
More Ways to Get Involved
- FINS Talent Pipeline Program – Research + career development (U.S. citizenship required)
- AIIRI (AI & Informatics Research Institute) – Check out their AI Scholars program with $1,750 stipend to support AI-related research work with a faculty member
