I’m a senior majoring in Business Administration with a specialization in Wealth Management. I knew I wanted to work at a large financial institution, so when I saw the opportunity on Citi’s website, I applied! This summer I interned in Miami with Citi’s Wealth team, where I focused on client account reconciliation, Net New Investment Asset (NNIA) reporting, and worked closely with the Alternative Investments team. One of my favorite projects was creating internal materials about new private equity and credit opportunities that advisors could use to guide client conversations.
Through this experience, I learned a lot about the alternative investment space and gained exposure to how private equity, hedge funds, and credit products create key advantages in client portfolios. I also polished my communication skills. Working with executives taught me how important it is to be clear, concise, and proactive in keeping others updated.
What made this internship so meaningful was the people. Citi’s culture is incredibly collaborative, and I had the chance to build strong relationships with my team members and across Wealth. I am grateful to have gained mentors who continue to guide me.
Personal Advice:
For other UF students, my best advice is to take the time to understand what you want to do before applications open. For me, speaking with professionals in the industry 6 months to a year out was really helpful. Hearing about their day-to-day work gave me a clearer picture of the roles I was interested in and helped me decide if I could see myself in that environment. Understanding the type of work you enjoy and the industry you’re excited about will make interviews feel more natural and the entire process much less overwhelming.
