Carolyn Bazley, a first‑year graduate student in Information Systems and Operations Management, discovered her remote podcast‑editing internship while completing her undergraduate studies in the College of Journalism and Communications. Working from home, she met weekly with her supervisor and spent her days editing episodes, making creative decisions, and contributing to the company’s rebranding efforts. Through this experience, Carolyn strengthened her video‑editing aesthetics, adaptability, and time‑management skills—often dedicating long hours in the library to meet goals and deadlines. She found the internship especially meaningful because it allowed her to apply her CJC training in a new context, even as she transitioned into the business school. After learning about the University Recognized Internship through email, she completed the verification steps in Gator CareerLink and Gator Launch (Suitable) at her own pace, finding the process flexible and easy to follow.

What’s your major and year at UF, and how did you locate this internship opportunity?
I am currently a first-year grad student majoring in Information Systems and Operations Management at the Warrington College of Business. I located this opportunity while I was an undergrad at the College of Journalism and Communications. There was a page to look for internship opportunities, and I found this podcast editing internship that interested me.
Where did you intern, and what were your day-to-day responsibilities?
My internship was remote, so I worked from home. I had a Zoom meeting each week, and every day I could expect to go through the podcast I was working on at the time and make the appropriate decisions regarding what to cut and keep, design choices, and more.
What new skills did you gain from this experience?
I learned a lot about the aesthetics of video editing and how to work through a company rebrand, because the company was going through its own evolution of itself at the time of my internship.
What personal strengths did you bring to the role?
I brought good time management and goal setting. Many days, I would go to the library and work for hours editing to ensure that I was meeting the goals given to me.
Why was this a meaningful experiential learning experience for you?
Yes! Because I am now in the business school, I am not entirely sure where and how I can use the unique skills I learned at the CJC, but this internship allowed me to apply what I learned in my undergraduate major for something that is watchable.
What was different about your internship, compared to traditional face-to-face internships?
It was very self-paced, but there were still deadlines I had to meet. I would meet with my boss virtually each week, but other than that, I was free to make my own artistic decisions and at the times that worked for me and my schedule.
Talk about your steps in completing the University Recognized Internship on Gator CareerLink and Gator Launch (Suitable). How long did that process take? Were the steps easy to follow?
I first learned about the URI from an email, and I immediately wanted to follow the steps for this internship. I read the emails with instructions, and it was relatively easy to follow, especially because I have already used Suitable before. I completed the steps over the course of a few months because I worked on them around my busy schedule, so it was pretty flexible.
