Career Showcase Is Over. Now What?

Next Steps to Turn Conversations Into Opportunities

Career Showcase doesn’t end when you leave the O’Connell Center – in many ways, it’s just the beginning. What you do after the event can make a big difference in turning conversations into interviews, internships, and job offers. Use the steps below to stay organized, follow up professionally, and keep building momentum.

Review Your Notes & Complete Action Steps

Right after the event (or as soon as possible), take time to review the notes you captured during your conversations with employers.

Ask yourself:

  • Who did I speak with, and what stood out about each conversation?
  • Did the employer suggest a next step (apply online, email a recruiter, connect on LinkedIn, attend an event)?
  • Are there application deadlines I need to track?

Create a simple follow-up list so nothing slips through the cracks. Acting quickly shows interest, professionalism, and follow-through.

Visit Gator CareerLink

Gator CareerLink is your hub for staying connected with employers after Career Showcase. Log in to:

  • View employer-hosted events, info sessions, and workshops
  • Search and apply for internships, co-ops, and full-time roles
  • Learn more about organizations you met at the fair

Many employers continue recruiting well after Career Showcase, so checking Gator CareerLink regularly can uncover new opportunities.

Check Your Email & Voicemail

After the fair, employers may reach out directly – sometimes sooner than expected.

Be sure to:

  • Check your email inbox and spam folder daily
  • Monitor your voicemail and return calls promptly
  • Respond professionally and within 24–48 hours whenever possible

Timely responses reinforce the strong first impression you made at the event.

Send Thank-You Messages & Follow Up

Sending a thank-you message is a simple but powerful step that many students skip – don’t be one of them.

Your thank-you should:

  • Thank the employer for their time
  • Reference something specific from your conversation
  • Reiterate your interest in the role or organization
  • Include your name, major, and contact information

If you don’t hear back right away, a polite follow-up after 1–2 weeks is appropriate.

Tips for Staying in Touch

Building relationships doesn’t stop after one conversation. Here are ways to stay connected:

LinkedIn

  • Send a personalized connection request within a few days
  • Mention where you met and something you discussed
  • Engage with their posts or company updates when relevant

Gator Network

  • Use the Gator Network to connect with UF alumni
  • Request informational interviews to learn more about career paths and organizations

Connect at Upcoming Events

  • Attend employer info sessions, workshops, and networking nights
  • Follow up with employers you’ve already met to strengthen the connection

Share Updates & News

  • Let employers know when you apply, complete a project, earn a certification, or gain a new role
  • Keep updates professional, relevant, and concise

Keep the Momentum Going

Career Showcase is one step in your career journey – not the finish line. Staying organized, following up intentionally, and continuing to engage with employers will help you stand out and build long-term professional relationships.
