Are you an international student studying in the United States? Important changes to F-1 student regulations are coming this fall, and understanding how they may impact your academic journey is essential.
On September 15, 2026, a new F-1 fixed-period-of-admission rule is scheduled to take effect. This rule would replace the current “Duration of Status (D/S)” framework with a specific period of authorized stay for F-1 students. These changes could affect students who need additional time to complete their degree programs, participate in internships or training opportunities, travel internationally, or plan for post-graduation employment through CPT and OPT.
To help students understand these upcoming changes, the SAS International Committee (SAS-IC) is hosting a free virtual webinar featuring immigration law experts David Kim and Sarah S. Wilson. During the session, they will explain the proposed rule, discuss how it may impact international students, and answer questions from attendees.
