Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

The resources and tools found within this community have been designed and curated to support students who are interested in fields related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This pathway is focused on applying technology and scientific methods with critical thinking to improve a variety of areas.

This community covers four main industry areas:

  1. Science- The science field designates jobs and careers where professionals use life and physical science to facilitate change for the benefit of society. While one person might work to cure diseases and famine, another science practitioner could aim to resolve climate change. With such a diverse range of specializations for someone to pursue, they can help an individual forge a distinctive career path and differentiate themselves from others by having unique expertise and knowledge.
  2. Technology- The technology field primarily focuses on the advancement of mechanical innovations and the implementation of technology to improve productivity and optimize processes. Technology helps people accomplish laborious tasks more efficiently and access digital systems to learn new skills, earn money, and remain up to date on current trends. Careers in this industry are incredibly expansive, and it’s the one STEM field that integrates into all other fields.
  3. Engineering- Engineering could be considered a composite of the other three STEM fields. In engineering, professionals use their expertise to solve complex technical problems regarding a wide range of topics. For example, one engineer might develop the means to travel to a faraway planet to extract planetary matter, while another engineer might seek to develop a new type of roadway that can make driving safer. Engineers, no matter the field, usually follow the process of designing, implementing, and testing their innovations to ensure they function as intended.
  4. Mathematics- The mathematics field refers to professions that harness the power of numbers, algorithms, and dynamic equations to understand how systems work, solve problems, identify patterns, and justify solutions from a statistical and data-driven perspective. Many other STEM professionals integrate mathematical computations into their operational processes because it helps them better obtain their desired outcomes.
