Beede AC & Heating is a family-owned HVAC contractor serving Katy and West Houston for 16+ years, and one of the fastest growing specialized subcontractors in Houston. We’re a team of 10+ expanding into commercial and new-construction work, and this role helps us go find it.

You’re getting in at the ground floor of our commercial pipeline and helping us build it out, working alongside the owner and the rest of the team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Find the work:

  • Mine public permit data from Houston, Katy, Fort Bend, and Harris County to identify who is building what and which general contractor pulled the permit
  • Track plan rooms and bid boards for mechanical scopes in our size range and service area
  • Rank targets by starts per year, not project size — one GC doing eight buildings a year beats five doing one

Map the targets:

  • Build and maintain the target list of small general contractors and repeat developers: QSR builders, custom home builders, warehouse and tilt-wall
  • Identify the right contact at each one (chief estimator, mechanical PM, purchasing) and get them into our outreach system
  • Run email sequences and log every response

Make us easy to hire:

  • Own our general contractor pre-qualification packages: W-9, certificates of insurance at each GC’s required limits, safety documentation, references, and licensing — ready the day an invitation to bid lands. Most small mechanical contractors never get on bid lists because nobody finishes this paperwork
  • Keep the CRM clean and the pipeline current
  • Prep briefing notes so the owner walks into every call knowing the company, the project, and the person

HOW THE WORK SPLITS UP

Everything here is a team effort. Closing, pricing, and estimator relationships sit with the owner. You build the warm, prioritized queue that makes those conversations happen, and you’ll sit in on plenty of them.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, graduating May 2028
  • Studying construction science, construction management, civil or mechanical engineering, or business
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Available 15–25 hrs/week through spring 2028
  • Available full-time June–August 2027
  • Able to work from our Katy area office on occasion
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

SKILLS AND TRAITS

  • Comfortable digging through public records, permit databases, and spreadsheets unsupervised
  • Strong written communication and relentless follow-up
  • Organized enough to keep a CRM and document package current without reminders
  • Curious about construction and contracting — no HVAC experience required, but must want to learn it

COMPENSATION AND PATH FORWARD

  • $14/hr to start, 15 to 25 hours per week, flexible around your class schedule.
  • $16/hr after a strong 90-day review.
  • $100 bonus every time we win a bid you helped source.
  • Full-time paid summer 2027 role for top performers at a $60k annualized rate. Offers extended by March 1, so you know where you stand before other summer offers are due.
  • Course credit available if your program allows it. We’ll work with your department.

WHAT YOU GET OUT OF IT

You’ll work directly with the owner and alongside our technicians and office team — not three layers down. The owner came out of Wall Street and private equity before running this business, so you get the operating side and the deal side in the same job. You’ll learn how general contractors select subcontractors, what a pre-qualification package is, and how preconstruction works from the trade side.
