Summary
Green Works Africa is introducing and implementing environmentally friendly solutions for Tanzanian communities. These solutions include dry toilets, composting and household water reuse, and solar water purification systems. We also emphasise sustainable tourism operations.
Details
Tanzanian communities need more economic strength to implement environmentally friendly household solutions.
Presently, less than 50% of households have a toilet. Interns are developing sustainable and affordable solutions, including dry toilets for homes and schools.
This program also includes an introduction to solar-based water purification. Other green work includes developing compost, finding sustainable cooking heat sources, developing tree and bamboo nurseries, educating the neighbourhood, and advocating.
Sustainable Wildlife Safaris and other tourism operations are essential local sources of funding. The safaris also help us work towards sustainability.
We are developing an NGO business model to streamline revenue back into communities.
You can also get experience in an African tree nursery and help in planting operations.
The working hours are 6–8 hours from Monday to Friday. Paid internships include a local minimum wage of USD 100 per month.
We use our social media pages for advocacy work. Our Facebook pages have more than 50K followers.
Academic-level team leaders are supervising your internship daily. In addition, we monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to ensure you proceed well in your study program.
The internship outcome is to learn to use and get experience implementing your education in developing country conditions with limited capacitation. Also, to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy. Interns work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals.
The program is ongoing, so the start dates are adjustable. We accept applications from all students and alumni. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests to empower your daily work with the community.
Daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility work.
The start and end dates are flexible and accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania. However, personal costs include international flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals.
You and your visiting friends can enjoy low-cost, sustainable safaris.
The Benefits and Perks are as follows:
Accommodation and meals are personal expenses. For 1–13 weeks, EUR 175 per week covers accommodation with breakfast and dinner and the student compound, and from week 14 onwards, it is EUR 125 weekly.
Airport transfer is EUR 60 in one way, a personal expense.
A charity visa for immigration, which costs USD 50, is a personal expense. A multiple-entry visa for less than 12 months is USD 250.
We pay you a USD 50 monthly stipend, which is small but twice Tanzania’s national minimum wage. The grant requires a minimum participation of four weeks.
Flights are a personal expense.
Local transport, if any, is a personal expense.
