The BG Service Co., Inc. is an aerospace & industrial products manufacturer seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern. BG is a leader in the development and manufacturing of breakthrough ignition technologies for a wide range of applications.
Role Description:
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for assisting the rest of the engineering department in a wide variety of tasks including modeling parts and assemblies, drafting drawings, communicating with the Machining and Assembly departments regarding designs and processes, developing and troubleshooting test methods and process definitions, prototyping developmental products, and more. Under the supervision of the existing engineering staff you may be given pre-defined deliverables or open-ended tasks to approach at your discretion.
You will be trained in various areas including design standards, CAD techniques, industrial equipment, digital file management, additive manufacturing principles, and more.
Schedule: 40 hours per week with a ~12 week duration, mid-May to early August. Flexibility for student responsibilities can be handled as necessary.
Pay: $21/hr
Location: West Palm Beach, FL
Responsibilities:
- Generate part models, assemblies, and drawings
- Implement DFM concepts, considering part and assembly level tolerances
- Apply knowledge of mechanical, thermal, and electrical concepts to designs
- Develop documentation for and track the status of new and existing projects
- Communicate with members of other departments to identify engineering solutions to problems with machining or assembly of products
- Work with other engineers to run tests, develop prototypes, and operate equipment as necessary
Qualifications include:
- Majoring in mechanical / aerospace engineering or similar
- Having completed at least 3 semesters by summer 2025
- 3.2 GPA or above
- Familiarity with CAD software (Solid Works / Solid Edge)
- Able to understand technical documentation, drawings, and specifications
- Knowledge of DFM concepts
- Knowledge of basic electrical concepts
- Experience with soldering
- Experience with 3D printing
- Experience with programming, particularly with Visual Basic .NET
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Must be highly motivated / self-starter
- Interest in both computer and hands-on work
- Detail-oriented & organized

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Must pass a drug screening/background check
- Typical office areas and active factory floor setting
- Occasional use of stairs
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds
- Exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and complex machinery (PPE and safety protocols are provided and mandatory in all cases)
