CHOMP User Guide

WHAT IS CHOMP?

CHOMP (Career Help Or Major Planning) is an online career and educational planning tool designed to help UF students and alumni make decisions about their future career goals and education plans. It can help Gators identify their work interests, values, personality, skills, leisure interests, and how different majors at UF connect to various careers. WHERE DO I START?

  • To get started with CHOMP, follow the steps below:
  • Login to CHOMP using your GatorLink credentials
    • Navigate to the “Self-Assessment” section and complete the assessments. You will have access to five quizzes that will take 10-15 minutes to complete.
      • Work Interest Assessment*
      • Values Assessment*
      • Personality Assessment*
      • Leisure Assessment
      • Skills Assessment
  • Once the assessments are completed, click “Combine Assessments” to see your results.
    • The C3 encourages students to combine the assessments with asterisks (*).

Major and career options in your assessment results provide ideas and information to help you get started with your career and professional development planning.

  1. Read through your Work Interest, Personality, and Values assessments results.
  2. Read through your results from the Personality and Values Assessments.

Read through the “Majors for Occupations” or “Occupations for Majors” tabs to research at least two or three occupations. Ask yourself:

Exploring Occupations

  • What occupations on one or more of my lists appeal to me the most? Why?
  • What occupations do not match my interests and do not appeal to me? Why?

Personal Interests and Values

  • What are my strongest interests and passions?
  • What values are most important to me in a career (e.g., work-life balance, helping others, financial stability)?
    • NOTE: Users can assess potential salaries of occupations by reviewing “Earnings by State”.
  • What type of work environment do I thrive in (e.g., collaborative, independent, structured, flexible, working inside or outside, specific geographical locations)?

Read through the “Majors for Occupations” or “Occupations for Majors” tabs to research at least two or three occupations. Ask yourself:

Occupational Outlook

  • What are the current trends and future outlook for the industries I am interested in pursuing? NOTE: Some occupations have a “Bright Outlook” and are projected to have increases in employment opportunities.
  • What additional skills or certifications would enhance my competitiveness in these fields?
  • What are the educational and experience requirements for this position?

Now that you have researched at least two or three occupations. Write down at least 3 Majors and/or Minors you are interested in.

NOTE: Consider making an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss any questions about UF’s colleges or programs.
