>> My name is Randy Juoben. I'm the executive director of risk management and compliance for the College of Southern Maryland. My job is to protect the tangible and intangible assets of the organization. So, essentially, that not only includes traditional risks such as the property, safety, and security but it also deals with things like accreditation and reputation and business continuity. The thing that I like about my job is that there is no typical day. We work on some long-term projects where we measure and evaluate the risk of the college and we make plans to mitigate or manage that risk. But in addition to that, things are always happening or occurring. It could be something goes wrong in the physical plant. It could be something with the students. It could an automobile accident. So, whatever pops up that's how shifts my day. But essentially, you know, I'm an internal consultant to the college and to the students and staff. So, if anything comes up and they need an assessment on risk, that's where I would step in and help them. So, one of the things that I'm doing is I'm bringing this program into place in the college. There's two or three national frameworks and international frameworks. And, essentially, I'm educating the staff on what these frameworks are. We're doing basic risk assessments. We're evaluating what could go wrong, what is the likely impact. And then we're going to develop treatment methodologies for each of these risks. In turn with that, I'm also looking at the business continuity. We want to make sure that we have a sustainable organization that should anything occur whether natural or manmade that the organization survives and thrives.
