>> My name's Heather Siegfried. I'm sort of a regional recruitment director for a national education non-profit called City Year. So City Year, our basic mission and focus is to solve the dropout crisis that's happening in our country today. So what we do is we recruit young adults to serve in at risk schools around the country doing tutoring, mentoring and after school programming with students who are off track and on that path of just giving up and dropping out. We really want to encourage them to stay in school and help keep them on track so that way they graduate on time. My role is very busy. So basically what I do is I oversee our entire southern region. That includes our five city locations, Columbia, South Carolina, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, San Antonio, Texas, as well as Littlerock, Arkansas. So what I do is I manage people that are in those locations and oversee their responsibilities as well as oversee the recruiting that happens between North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, which is why I'm here at Georgia Southern today. So what we do is we go to the different schools, colleges, high schools, community organizations, and do presentations about our organization. We highlight what it is that we do. We do recruitment presentations to student classes, student organizations, time career fairs, do information sessions, tablings, to highlight our americore service program. We are a time length program so it's nothing that people have to commit to long term. Because we serve in schools it can be a very challenging job to especially work with youth. So we're looking for those that have youth experience coming in. Those that have leadership experience. All of our core members get assigned various leadership roles and are responsible to help lead their peers on their team that they serve on so that, we also look for diversity experience. City Year prides itself on its diversity which I've come to realize that Georgia Southern is very diverse so it's one of my favorite campuses to recruit from. Another component is perseverance to get through difficult and challenging times. Again, working with students can be very challenging. We want to make sure that we're finding folks that can come in and really persevere through those difficult times, working with students, and not just give up and quit. We've had enough folks give up and quit on the students that we serve and we don't want to add more names to that list.
