Make Your Internship Count through the University Recognized Internship (URI)
Did you complete a co-curricular (not for academic credit) internship between Summer 2023 and now? You can have it officially recognized by the University of Florida and included on your Gator Experience Record (launching late Fall 2025) through the University Recognized Internship (URI) process.
What is a University Recognized Internship (URI)?
A URI is a non-credit, career-related internship that gives you hands-on, real-world experience as a valuable part of your learning journey. These internships go beyond the classroom, allowing you to develop key skills, apply what you’ve learned, and expand your professional network while working in a meaningful role. The URI meets UF’s standards for high-impact experiential learning and gives you official recognition for your professional experience and skill development outside the classroom.
Why Should You Submit Your Internship?
- Get official UF recognition for your experience
- Showcase your internship on your Gator Experience Record (launching late Fall 2025)

A supervisor for your experience is someone who can verify your work and complete evaluations for you throughout the internship experience. You cannot list yourself, a direct family member, or another undergraduate student as your supervisor.
- If the opportunity is with a family business, it is recommended that a non-family employee be listed as the supervisor or mentor.
- The Supervisor will verify your experience, develop your role, responsibilities and learning objectives, and provide structured guidance.
Your documentation will be reviewed. If approved, the internship will be added to your Gator Experience Record. If additional information is needed, our team will contact you. Please allow 2-4 weeks for the review process.
Currently, you could submit up to 5 internship experiences from Summer 2023 to present. For each experience, please select the proper activity number and go through all the steps of registering through GCL, then submit the requested information into Gator Launch.
No—URI submissions are retroactive by design. You’re expected to submit after the internship has taken place, as long as it meets URI criteria and occurred while you were enrolled at UF.
Submissions are typically reviewed within 2 to 4 weeks. Petitions are reviewed within 4 to 6 weeks.
Nontraditional internships may still qualify. Provide detailed context in your submission, and the review team will assess eligibility.
Yes, your listed supervisor may be contacted to verify your experience. Make sure their contact information is accurate and up to date.
Absolutely! As long as the internship meets URI guidelines and includes high-impact learning components, it can be submitted. Additionally, any student submitting an internship must be a currently enrolled UF student at the time of submitting their application.
Reach out to the Career Connections Center at uf-uri@ufsa.ufl.edu or attend a URI info session. We’re happy to help you determine eligibility before you submit.
Approved submissions are added to your Gator Experience Record, helping you showcase your skills and impact to employers, grad schools, and mentors.
The Gator Experience Record is set to officially launch in late Fall 2025. Once it goes live, approved internships and other experiential learning activities will begin appearing on student records.
The Gator Experience Record is UF’s official, verified record of your college journey beyond the classroom. Like a transcript for your involvement, it tracks leadership, service, internships, and more—helping you reflect on growth and showcase your impact to employers, mentors, and grad schools. It’s your story, documented.
